Aircon leaking water means water is dripping or pooling from the indoor unit inside your home, not the normal condensation drip from the outdoor unit, which Daikin describes as normal since it is normal for water to drip from the condenser unit as condensation takes place when warm air surrounds the piping connections.

## What to check first

First, confirm where the water is coming from. Water outside, under the outdoor condenser unit, is usually nothing to worry about. Water inside, dripping from or pooling under the indoor unit on the wall or ceiling, is the problem this guide covers.

Second, think about when it was last serviced. Daikin states that skipping regular maintenance causes the cooling coil and rotor to clog, and water leakage may occur, and recommends servicing every 3-6 months to prevent exactly this. An indoor unit that has not been cleaned in over six months is the most common starting point for a leak.

Third, place a towel or container under the drip and stop using the unit until someone can look at it. Continuing to run a leaking indoor unit risks water damage to the ceiling or wall it is mounted on, and does not clear the blockage on its own.

## The likely causes, in order

**A blocked drainage pipe (most common).** The most likely cause is a blocked drainage pipe. Daikin's own FAQ states that water leakage from the indoor unit occurs because water is not drained out from the drainage pipe or water is trapped in the pipe, which is blocked by dirty particles. Safe check: this is inside sealed piping and not something to open yourself — note when the leak started and whether it is constant or only during use.

**A dirty, unserviced coil (second most common).** The second cause is a dirty, unserviced unit. Daikin states that skipping regular maintenance causes the cooling coil and rotor to clog, and water leakage may occur, and recommends servicing every 3-6 months to prevent exactly this. Safe check: check your own service records for how long it has been since the last [chemical wash](/guides/glossary-chemical-wash) or general service.

**Missing or worn pipe insulation (third most common).** The third cause is missing or degraded pipe insulation causing condensation to form and drip where it should not. Daikin states that both refrigerant pipes require insulation to prevent water condensation from occurring, particularly under high temperature or humidity conditions typical of Singapore. Safe check: if the leak appears along the pipe run rather than directly under the unit, this is the more likely cause.

## When to call, and who

Call an [aircon servicing](/aircon-servicing) provider once you have placed a container under the drip and stopped using the unit. Tell them how long ago it was last serviced and whether the leak is constant or only when the unit is running, since that narrows down drainage versus condensation before they arrive.

Daikin lists general servicing of the air-conditioner among what its warranty excludes, so clearing a blocked drain or cleaning a dirty coil is your cost, not a warranty repair, even on a unit still within its parts warranty period. Do not wait for a warranty claim to be approved before addressing an active leak.

## What it costs

A chemical wash is the job that clears most drainage and coil-related leaks, and is separate from a full chemical overhaul, which involves dismantling the unit and typically costs more.

When you ask for a quote, describe the leak: how long it has been happening, whether it is constant or only when the unit runs, and when it was last serviced. A provider who already suspects a blocked drain rather than a mechanical fault can quote a chemical wash directly instead of an open-ended "inspection first" visit.

Ask whether the quoted price includes clearing the drainage pipe specifically, since some providers treat that as part of a standard chemical wash and others charge it as an add-on.

## Who to call, and how to judge them

Aircon servicing has no single licensing register that covers every company, but NEA maintains a list of NEA-listed air-conditioner servicing companies with certified installers as a way to identify providers with formal standing, separate from the manufacturer's own warranty terms. An ACRA registration confirms the business exists, nothing more.

An aircon servicing provider checking a leak should inspect the drainage pipe for blockage first, then the coil and filter for the build-up Daikin warns skipped maintenance causes, before assuming a part has failed. Confirm the indoor unit's installed location matches what was approved, since HDB's own guide covers approved locations and installation methods for air-conditioners by flat type.

## Frequently asked questions

**Is it normal for my aircon to drip water outside?**

Aircon leaking water means water is dripping or pooling from the indoor unit inside your home, not the normal condensation drip from the outdoor unit, which Daikin describes as normal since it is normal for water to drip from the condenser unit as condensation takes place when warm air surrounds the piping connections.

**Why is my indoor unit leaking even though the aircon still cools fine?**

The most likely cause is a blocked drainage pipe. Daikin's own FAQ states that water leakage from the indoor unit occurs because water is not drained out from the drainage pipe or water is trapped in the pipe, which is blocked by dirty particles.

**Will Daikin's warranty cover clearing the leak?**

Daikin lists general servicing of the air-conditioner among what its warranty excludes, so clearing a blocked drain or cleaning a dirty coil is your cost, not a warranty repair, even on a unit still within its parts warranty period.
