## Package names are not a specification

General servicing usually covers routine cleaning and basic checks. A [chemical wash](/guides/glossary-chemical-wash) involves cleaning products intended to remove deposits from components. An overhaul may involve more dismantling, but companies use these names differently. Ask for the actual steps rather than assuming two packages are equivalent.

## Ask why deeper cleaning is needed

Describe the symptoms: poor cooling, odour, water leakage or an error code. These can have different causes. A cleaning package will not necessarily solve a refrigerant leak, electrical fault or failed component.

Ask the technician to inspect the unit and explain which parts need attention. Follow the manufacturer's maintenance guidance instead of accepting a fixed deep-clean schedule without regard to condition or use.

## Compare the quote

- How many indoor units does the price cover?
- Which components are removed and cleaned?
- Is the outdoor unit included, and can it be accessed safely?
- Are drainage checks, reassembly and testing included?
- Are transport, materials and GST included?
- What happens if the reported symptom remains afterwards?

A chemical wash and a full dismantling service may carry different labour costs. Compare the same scope before deciding that one provider is cheaper.

A general-service price is not yet published in large enough numbers to show a reliable range.

## Agree before extras

Refrigerant work, replacement parts and electrical repairs should be explained and separately approved. Ask for the findings and the revised total before they begin.
