A fridge not cooling in Singapore is most often a door not shutting tightly, the fridge packed too full for cold air to circulate, or a temperature setting that changed, not a compressor fault. NEA's household energy-saving guidance lists making sure the refrigerator door shuts tightly and not overloading the refrigerator among the basic checks.

## What to check first

Confirm the fridge is actually plugged in and the outlet has power — check by plugging in another device, and confirm the fridge is installed in a spot with room around it, not wedged into a tight corner. Then check that the door swings fully shut on its own and that nothing inside is propping it open, since even a few millimetres of gap is enough to stop a fridge cooling properly.

Keep the doors closed as much as possible while you check everything else. Fridges are meant to hold food below 5°C, and every minute the door is open lets warm, humid air in.

Do not remove internal panels, disturb refrigerant lines, or move a heavy fridge alone while checking these. None of that is needed for the three checks below.

## The likely causes, in order

**A door not shutting tightly (most common).** The most common cause is the door not shutting tightly. NEA's guidance is to make sure that the refrigerator door shuts tightly, since a gap of even a few millimetres breaks the seal that keeps cold air in.

**An overloaded fridge or blocked vent.** The second cause is the fridge packed too full, or food pressed against the internal vents. NEA advises that you should not overload the refrigerator, to ensure that cold air can circulate freely, so check what's blocking the vents before assuming a fault.

**A changed setting or Demo Mode.** The third cause is the temperature setting itself, either changed accidentally or left in Demo Mode. NEA's guidance is to adjust the thermostat in the refrigerator to the recommended setting, and Samsung's support page states that Cooling Off (Demo) Mode shows as "0 FF" or "0F 0F" on the display.

## When to call, and who

Call an [appliance repair](/appliance-repair) provider if the fridge is still not cooling after checking the door, load and settings, or if it was already warm when you noticed. Keep the doors closed as much as possible while you wait for a technician, since fridges are meant to hold food below 5°C, and food held above that for an extended period should not be judged safe by smell or taste alone.

A burning smell, a tripped circuit at the DB box connected to the fridge, or visible damage to the power cord is an electrical fault, not a cooling fault — unplug it if it is safe to reach the plug, and treat it as urgent.

## What it costs

Ask two or three for a written quote once you've described exactly what you've already checked.

Give each provider the model, roughly how old the fridge is, and which of the three checks above you've ruled out. Ask for the inspection or call-out fee, whether it's waived if you proceed with the repair, and whether parts are quoted separately from labour.

## Who to call, and how to judge them

Fridge repair is not licensed work in Singapore, so there is no public register to check. Judge an appliance repair provider on a written scope, a stated inspection or call-out fee, and a business you can verify instead. An ACRA registration confirms the business exists, nothing more.

Before opening the unit, check that the fridge has power and is installed in an appropriate spot, and check whether it has been switched into Cooling Off (Demo) Mode, which Samsung's support page says shows as "0 FF" or "0F 0F" on the display. Prefer a provider who asks what you've already checked before quoting a compressor or gas-related repair sight-unseen.

## Frequently asked questions

**Why is my fridge not cooling even though it's running?**
