## Describe the whole move

A useful quote starts with an inventory, both addresses and the access at each property. Photos or a video walkthrough help a mover estimate the load. Include bulky items, furniture that needs dismantling and anything requiring special handling.

Tell the mover about stairs, lift size, parking restrictions and the distance from vehicle to door. Check any lift-booking requirements with building management before confirming the date.

## Ask what the quoted amount includes

- Packing materials and packing labour.
- Dismantling and reassembly.
- Stairs, long carries and extra vehicle trips.
- Weekend, evening or public-holiday charges.
- Disposal of unwanted furniture.
- Storage, including transport into and out of storage.
- Applicable GST and any booking deposit.

A price based on an assumed inventory can change when additional items appear. Ask the mover to record the assumptions and explain how changes are charged.

## Agree what happens if plans change

Get the cancellation and rescheduling terms in writing. Confirm arrival windows, payment milestones and the process for reporting loss or damage. Ask what any stated insurance covers, its exclusions and how a claim is made.

## Compare the same job

Send each provider the same inventory and access information. Compare total cost and written responsibilities, rather than a headline van or hourly rate alone. A request for a survey before a firm quote can be sensible for a complicated move.

[Compare movers](/movers). Before moving day, reconfirm the inventory, access bookings and contact person at both addresses.
