## Decide which service you need

Occasional cleaning, a recurring weekly clean and employing a live-in domestic worker are different arrangements. Start with the tasks, frequency and responsibilities you actually need.

A cleaning company may supply and manage its own staff. An employment agency helps place a worker with an employer. Do not assume every business advertising cleaning is an employment agency.

## Check that the arrangement is permitted

MOM's Household Services Scheme allows participating companies to supply part-time household services using eligible migrant workers. For occasional help, check the company's arrangement and the worker's eligibility. See [MOM's HSS explanation](https://www.mom.gov.sg/faq/work-permit-for-foreign-worker/what-is-household-services-scheme).

Employing a migrant domestic worker is a separate work-permit process. MOM allows eligible employers to apply directly; an employment agency is not compulsory. If you use an agency, check its MOM licence — an employment agency placing domestic workers must hold a licence from MOM and can only legally begin operating once that licence is issued. See [MOM's direct-application guidance](https://www.mom.gov.sg/faq/work-permit-for-fdw/can-i-employ-an-fdw-without-going-through-an-employment-agency).

## Compare the cleaning service

- Is the rate hourly, per visit or a package?
- How many hours and [cleaners](/cleaners) are included?
- Who supplies equipment and products?
- What happens if the assigned cleaner cannot attend?
- Which tasks are excluded, such as external windows or heavy lifting?
- How are complaints and damage handled?

## Start with clear terms

Confirm the total price, minimum booking, cancellation fee and replacement arrangements. Ask who is responsible for the work and who receives payment. A trial visit can help establish whether the scope and time allowance fit your home before committing to a long package.

[Compare cleaning providers](/cleaners), then ask about the specific service and staffing arrangement.
