## Leave it switched off

Stop using a water heater that trips the circuit, gives an electric shock, smells burnt or shows damaged wiring. Do not repeatedly reset the breaker or bypass a protective device. Keep away from wet electrical fittings. Isolate the supply only if you can do so safely from a dry location.

If there is smoke or fire, leave the area and contact emergency services. Do not use water on an electrical fire.

## Describe what already happened

Tell the professional whether the trip occurred when the heater was switched on or during use, whether other circuits were affected and whether there was a leak or unusual smell. Do not re-energise it to reproduce the fault. Provide the heater model and any recent installation or repair history.

## Choose the right professional

Fixed wiring, circuit protection and electrical installation work require the appropriate Licensed Electrical Worker. A fault inside the appliance may also need the manufacturer's service team or a suitably qualified appliance technician. Ask who will diagnose each part of the problem and coordinate any necessary plumbing work.

See [EMA's licensed-worker guidance](https://www.ema.gov.sg/consumer-information/electricity/engaging-licensed-workers). A protective device tripping is a symptom; it does not establish which component has failed.

## Agree on the repair

Request the diagnosis, itemised repair or replacement quote, and checks before the heater returns to service. Confirm the warranty and the inspection charge if you decline further work.
