Check the person doing the work
EMA says wiring, power-point and circuit-breaker work should be carried out or supervised by a Licensed Electrical Worker. A company registration, online rating or platform badge is a separate check. See EMA's guidance.
Ask for the name and licence number of the worker responsible for your job. If a company sends a team, ask who will supervise and certify the work where required.
ACRA only confirms the business exists, it does not confirm an EMA licence, which is the check below.
Verify the licence
- Follow the licensed-worker search link from EMA's official guidance to ELISE.
- Search using the worker's name or licence number.
- Compare the result with the worker's licence card.
- Ask whether the licence class covers your installation and proposed work.
- If the details do not match, resolve the discrepancy with EMA before work begins.
A name search returning no result is a reason to investigate, not proof that the person is unlicensed. A card alone also does not resolve an expired or mismatched record.
Agree on the work
Ask for an itemised quote showing the call-out fee, labour, parts and testing. Confirm whether the circuit needs to be isolated, how long power will be unavailable and what documentation you will receive.
An unexplained jump in scope deserves a pause. Request the diagnosis, revised price and your opportunity to approve it before additional work starts.
Keep the paperwork
Retain the quote, invoice, worker's name and licence number, and any testing or warranty documents. Avoid collecting unnecessary identity-card details.
Compare electricians, then check the named worker through EMA before agreeing to regulated work.
